A new word arrives at midnight UTC, and everyone gets the same one. In the US that is 8 p.m. Eastern in summer (7 p.m. in winter) and 5 p.m. Pacific in summer (4 p.m. in winter).
Answers are common five-letter English words, with no plurals, proper nouns or past tenses. About one in ten is a harder but fair word. Guesses are more relaxed: any valid English word is accepted, so you can play a throwaway word just to test letters.
The daily word is one attempt per day, win or lose. After that, Play opens Unlimited mode, where you can keep solving new puzzles any time. Unlimited rounds never change your daily streak, and Unlimited has its own weekly ranking.
