A little about the game

Meet Rope Escape Master

Untangle coloured ropes by moving their ends to empty pegs. Five easy boards ease you in, then hundreds of medium and hard ones follow, with no timer and no lives.

How to play Rope Escape Master

Coloured ropes are tied between pegs on a wooden board. Drag a rope end to an empty peg, or tap the end and then tap the peg. The board is untangled when no rope crosses or touches another rope or a grey screw. A screw cannot hold a rope end, and a rope that touches one counts as tangled. There is no timer and you cannot lose a level: every move can be undone, and any board can be untangled from wherever you are. Hint picks up the next rope end for you and lights its peg, and costs one star each time. Undo is free and unlimited. Fewer moves earn up to three stars. A level scores 100, plus 20 for each rope and 100 for each star above the first. Levels 1 to 5 are easy, levels 6 to 80 medium and later levels hard. The mode menu also offers a daily knot, one board for everyone each UTC day that gets harder from Monday to Sunday, and Endless, which plays board after board against a 90-second clock that gains 8 seconds for every board untangled, until the clock runs out. Keyboard: arrow keys or WASD move between pegs, Enter or Space picks up the rope end on a peg and puts it down on an empty peg, H gives a hint and U undoes.

A tip for your next run

Pull the rope that crosses the most others to a far empty peg first, then straighten the rest around it.

How do you play Rope Escape Master?

Drag a rope end to an empty peg, or tap the end and then the peg. Keep moving ends until no rope crosses or touches another rope or a grey screw. Then the board is untangled and you earn up to three stars for using few moves.

Is there a timer or a way to lose in Rope Escape Master?

Not in the levels or the daily knot. There is no clock and no lives, and every move can be undone, so you can take as long as you like. Only Endless, the optional mode, runs on a 90-second clock that gains 8 seconds for every board you untangle.

Can every Rope Escape Master level be solved?

Yes. Each board is built by tying ropes so none touch and then scrambling them with legal moves, and every move can be reversed. That means any board can be untangled from any layout you reach, so you cannot make a mistake that locks the level.

How hard do the levels get?

The first five levels are easy, with three to six ropes. Levels 6 to 80 are medium and grow to ten ropes, and later levels are hard, with up to fourteen ropes, grey screws and fewer empty pegs. The boards come as two bars, a cross, a wooden frame or a free grid of pegs.

How do hints and stars work in Rope Escape Master?

A hint picks up the next rope end for you and lights the peg it belongs on, and each hint costs one star. Undo is free and unlimited. Three stars need few moves and no hint, and a cleared level scores 100, plus 20 for each rope and 100 for each star above the first.

Does Rope Escape Master have a daily puzzle?

Yes. The mode switch before you play offers the levels, a daily knot that is the same board for everyone on a UTC day and gets harder from Monday to Sunday, and Endless. The daily knot can be played once a day.

Is Rope Escape Master free to play?

Yes. It is free in your browser on a phone or computer, with no download or sign-up, and it has no leaderboard. Your level and best score are saved on your own device.
